It's the question we hear most. The honest answer is that it depends on a handful of things that are easy to check once you know what to look for. Here's how buyers like us size up a collection.
1. Sets vs. loose bricks
Complete sets, especially with their minifigures, are usually worth much more than the same pieces in a mixed bin. If you have the boxes or instruction booklets, keep them. They help identify sets quickly and can add real value to sealed or collectible sets.
2. Retired sets
LEGO® retires sets regularly. Once a set is no longer sold in stores, collectors who missed it often pay more for it. Some retired sets, especially large or licensed ones, sell for well above their original price.
3. Minifigures
Minifigures are often the most valuable part of a collection, pound for pound. Licensed figures (Star Wars™, Marvel, Harry Potter™), exclusives, and older figures in good condition are worth setting aside when you take photos.
4. Condition
Clean, bright, unbroken bricks are worth more than faded, scratched, or chewed ones. Don't worry about a bit of dust: we clean everything. Smoke and mildew odors are the main deal-breakers.
5. Bulk by the pound
Loose, mixed LEGO® is typically valued by weight, with adjustments for what's inside. A bin heavy with minifigures, Technic, or specialty pieces is worth more than one that's mostly basic bricks. Knock-off brands mixed in lower the value, since they have to be picked out.
