Selling an Inherited or Attic LEGO® Collection

LEGO® collections often turn up when a house is being cleared out: an attic full of bins, a basement shelf of boxed sets, or a lifetime collection from a family member who loved to build. If you're handling one now, here's a simple way through it.

Step 1: Don't throw anything out yet

Boxes, instruction booklets, and even small bags of loose pieces can matter. Old catalogs and storage cases sometimes have value too. Keep everything together until someone has taken a look.

Step 2: Get a rough picture

• Count the sealed or boxed sets
• Note any built sets on display
• Estimate the loose LEGO®: number of bins and rough size
• Look for minifigures, which are often stored separately

Step 3: Take a few photos

A wide shot of everything, plus close-ups of boxes, display builds, and minifigures, is usually enough for an initial offer. There's no need to unpack every box or sort anything.

Step 4: Decide how much effort you want to spend

Selling piece by piece online can bring in more money, but identifying, listing, and shipping a large collection can take weeks. Selling everything at once to a local buyer is faster and much easier, especially when you're already managing a move or an estate.
